The Subconscious Mind, the Role It Plays and How to Take Back Control

We have the tendency to hide our true emotions. Whether it’s letting go of a comment made by someone close to us or not voicing our ideas during a meeting, we tend to hide things.

Perhaps it’s the fear of being rejected or getting into conflicts.

Perhaps it’s because we think it’s not worth the effort.

Whatever it is, our subconscious mind plays an important role in our lives.

We tend to subdue our thoughts and feelings because we’ve been told to all our lives. Taking control of your subconscious mind will help you see things in a different light. It’s not easy taking back control, but it’s not impossible either.

Don’t Go with the Flow

Most of us go with the flow of things. For example, if you’re going to lunch with your office, you’ll most likely choose what everyone else is ordering. You’ll rely on someone else’s recommendation.

We tend to follow orders subconsciously. When your boss tells you to do more than you can handle, you don’t think twice about the consequences it can have on your health or personal life.

We’re trained from an early age to follow authority figures—from parents to teachers, we know the drill.

Most people follow the orders of others around them. While this is good in some ways, don’t let it become a part of who you are.

For example: if you know a deal is going to fall through because of certain measures taken that can anger the client, talk to your team lead about it.

Following orders blindly can lead to disastrous situations that can be costly to your team’s productivity.

Pitch In Ideas

Give your two cents when the team is discussing solutions to problems—even if you get rejected. When it comes to finding solutions, remember that the process involves going through a lot of “what ifs” and “whys.”

Our subconscious mind tells us to let go of ideas and theories. How do you know it’s not the right idea until you try it out? Don’t silence your thoughts.

Practice Visualization

Visualize where you want to be in life. Do you want to be stuck doing the same thing all your life? Do you want to be stuck in a routine? Stand out!

We’re unable to change our mundane life because we don’t visualize and make plans. What do you want to do throughout the day? What do you want to achieve by the end of the week? Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?

Visualize, strategize and implement!

When you plan everything, it’s hard to go with routine. Gradually making these changes can help you gain more control of your life and gain new perspectives.
