It’s Time To Squash Your Doubts In Your Abilities

“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” – Suzy Kassem

Does self-doubt hold you back?

Do you let go of opportunities that could have helped you climb the proverbial ladder in your career?

Do you constantly need reassurance from your partner?

Most of us fail to realize that it isn’t other people bringing us down. It isn’t life’s hurdles that impede our growth. It is our very own insecurities, uncertainties—self-doubt—that paves the way for perpetual monotony, and ultimately, stagnancy.

Here are 5 ways to overcome self-doubt and feel more confident.

1. Remember Your Past Successes.

You can always tell when you are awesome. Write your achievements down on a piece of paper and read them out loud to yourself, before going to bed every night. This will act as a mental pep talk. It will lift your spirits and keep you focused on your goals.

2. Say No To Over-thinking.

When faced with another round of inner doubts, do not over-think. Pause your work for a while, sit back, take a deep breath and try to figure out where this thought process stems from. Acknowledging the doubt helps in snapping out of it.

3. Do Not Compare.

You suddenly begin to feel unimportant when you compare your achievements to that of others’. Your friend’s or colleague’s accomplishments should not govern your choices. In other words, they should not be a litmus test to calibrate your success.

Should you ever find yourself comparing your life to others, remember that everyone has their own journey, their own hurdles, and their own self-doubts.

4. Stop Worrying About What Others Think About You.

“The opinion which other people have of you is their problem, not yours.” – Elisabeth Kübler-RossOn Life After Death

Don’t let other people’s opinions control you. There is no use spending precious time and energy in stressing out about something you can’t change. Do what makes you happy/fulfilled. When you’re content in your own choices, nothing anyone else says will matter.

You make your own mistakes. You learn from them. This process makes you wiser and more confident in your choices.

5. Seek Help Or Advice.

When in self-doubt, do not keep your thoughts to yourself. This will only give rise to more inhibitions.

Let your thoughts out in the light. Share them with someone close to you. Saying things out loud helps in a number of ways. It allows you to go easy on yourself. It breaks you free from the shackles of perfectionism.

More often than not, it might also give you new insight into the meaning of life. Better yet, listen to an uplifting speech by an inspirational speaker and it may help you get the advice you were looking for!
