Have you ever had a happenstance that changed your outlook on success and life? This is what happened to me…
The Opportunity That Started With a Text
Back in 2015, I had a speaking engagement in Barcelona, Spain. As we were leaving the house, my wife and I posted on social media; wishing Miami a goodbye and Barcelona a hello. With the hustle and bustle of the Miami airport, we barely made it to the gate in time. Following the success of our airport navigation, we sat in our seats and with just a few moments before takeoff I decided to check my phone. This is when I saw a message from an old friend, Scott Vanover.
His message stated that he now lives in Barcelona, and would like for my wife and I to join him for dinner. To which, we accepted.
Goodbye Miami, Hello Barcelona
If you haven’t had the opportunity to know Scott Vanover, he is quite the entrepreneur that is known for his serial successes throughout his life. We finally arrived in Barcelona and joined him for dinner. When I asked him why he chose Barcelona, he explained that he and his wife had the financial freedom to live anywhere, and after exploring various options near and far, they settled on Barcelona. Surfing, Sailing, Weather, Food and so much more…
As for his venture there, he had always dreamt of opening a brewery. Once they made the move he realized that the Craft Beer market hadn’t made it to Europe. He then opened a brewery named Edge Brewing; which was a success. They specialize in brewing with American ingredients imported to Barcelona and have seen considerable success, even expanding their exports worldwide. They have many accolades including being named the top new brewery in the world, top brewer in Spain, and Top 50 New Beers in the world out of 60,000 beers. They were also named the best new brewery in the world by RateBeer.com in 2014, which is no easy feat.
During dinner, Vanover mentioned that he admired my Grit and how it resonated with him. It took not only courage, but Vision to imagine success in a country he had never been to. During the difficult times he used his Grit to pull through and ended up stronger. Lastly, he never let his Mindset waver. His mind was made on success and he was determined to earn that. He also shared a valuable insight: while he may not consider himself the brightest, he surrounds himself with individuals who excel in areas where he may lack. This is a strategy he’s employed across all his business endeavors. And as we can all see, it has worked well.
Analyze your Support Systems. Are These People Supporting Your Success?
Let me ask you this, does your circle support your seemingly ‘impossible’ Visions? Do they stick by you when you have to Grit through ‘insurmountable’ odds? And does your circle help you to maintain your ‘insane’ Mindset? Find a group that makes you say ‘yes’ to all of these questions. Surround yourself with likeminded people, who pursue success relentlessly. Once you’ve acquired this support system, you can successfully accomplish any goal.
