That scene in American Beauty where Ricky Fitts shows his girlfriend his video of a plastic bag dancing in the air stands out in that film.
While describing the video, he says, “You want to see the most beautiful thing I’ve ever filmed? It was one of those days when it’s a minute away from snowing and there’s this electricity in the air; you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes.”
The great thing about Ricky was that he found beauty in things that other people overlooked.
There is more to life than we give it credit for. Here are 6 things you can do to get inspired:
Engage in Play
From meeting deadlines to giving presentations, you might be engrossed in a hectic routine. However, it is very important that you engage in play. Go out for a hit or build a fort in the backyard with your hands.
Doing what you really enjoy will keep you in great spirits.
While carrying out an activity, it helps if you are truly engrossed in it. However, you must also have the ability to exercise periodic disengagement.
This allows you to regroup your energies and come back to your task with a refreshed mind.
Learn a New Skill
As a species, curiosity is one of our most amazing qualities. We have this innate need to explore the world around us and find out more about it.
Whether it is cooking or coding, learning a new skill will really help a great deal in inspiring you.
From ancient wisdom to modern scientific research, if there’s one thing everybody seems to agree upon, it’s that helping others makes us happier.
Whether it gives us a sense of purpose or we are just happy improving the chances of survival of our fellow beings, helping does inspire us.
Wake Up a Little Earlier
Waking up a little earlier in the morning than you normally do gives you a head start. This not only makes you feel good, but will also give you some extra time. It sets you up for a great day ahead.
Share Experiences with People
Whether it is going out with a friend for a cup of coffee or taking a motorcycle trip across the country, sharing experiences with people you love can really prove to be inspiring. That’s the perfect way to actually buy happiness.
